As you can see, Grandma knew we Californians would not be able to handle that TX heat, so she had to go all out and get a water slide for us. It was so much fun! Two of Will's favorite things are water and slides; what a deal!
So we had a direct flight to Austin from San Francisco, which was very difficult for little Will. He did not sleep at all, but I did take some fun new toys with us to keep him entertained for maybe half the trip. He finally took an hour nap after we scarfed our Whataburgers...Yes, that was our first stop after getting situated in our rental car. After we ordered and pulled around, I figured I should run to the restroom before we hit the road, so I jumped out of the car while J waited in line. Of course, the song playing inside was "Blame it on Texas." It made me feel at home and put a smile on my face! We finally arrived in Mathis around 10 pm. We had to stop twice to change Will's diapers, and of course get some DQ! What a long day!
We woke up the next day to scrambled eggs, bacon, and yummy biscuits. We spent the day out in the yard playing with trucks, frogs, and rocks, climbing on Grandpa's boat, and riding in Grandpa's Mule (or tractor).
After nap, it was off to Corpus to visit Uncle Tom. For dinner, we had Papa John's pizza. YUM! (We have them in CA, but the closest one is 15 miles away.)
Our next destination was North Beach Thursday morning.
After we cleaned up and cooled off, it was nap time, so I took my niece, Courtney, out to play golf and get Marble Slab icecream. That was fun and yummy! We had a relaxing evening with the fam. Tom made an amzing fish dinner, and then it was outside to PLAY!!!
Friday was a pretty lazy day. We stayed inside most of the time, since it was extremely hot. The parents came over to Tom's and we had some yummy Miller's BBQ for lunch. A dear friend of ours came for a visit, too. We were glad we could minister to him. Then, we loaded up the car, headed to dinner (steaks all around), and back to Mathis to get ready for the big family party the next day.
We were all up early to get the food ready, the meat cooked, and the slide set up! We pretty much sat around, talked, and ate ALL DAY LONG! What a deal! Isn't that what vacations are for? It was so nice to see everyone again and hear about what was going on in their lives. All day Sunday and Monday morning were spent with the immediate family as we prepared for our departure back to CA. Jeremy and I did get to slip away to CC for a couple hours and have icecream at our favorite place Sunday night; that was fun, and it gave the grandparents some time with Will. We are thankful for our family and the love we share!!
